The Process of Crucifixion
The process of crucifixion, and what happens to the human body, is not well known in today's world. The Roman developed this process over hundred's of years. The cross was not a cross at all, but shaped like a "T".
The process of death doesn't start on the cross, but back in town where a criminal or enemy of the state was whipped to near death. The whipping was designed to shred the major muscle groups of the body and initiate the bleeding process.
Then, the criminal carried their cross to the crucifixion site. A cross weighed about 300 pounds. These sites were generally selected along strategic military borders to warn enemies and civilizations that were about to be invaded: This is what will happen to you if you challenge the Roman Empire. Often, hundred's and thousand's of souls were crucified along these borders.
For maximum effectiveness, the person being crucified had to live as long as possible, but endure pain and suffering so cry's could be heard through the land.
Today, we use the word excruciating, which literally came from the Roman phrase "out of crucifying." The public was permitted to walk up and down the rows of victims.
The Last Words of Jesus on the Cross (In Order)
Having just been nailed to the cross: "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do."
To a criminal hanging with him: "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise."
Jesus said to his mother: "Woman, this is your son." Then he said to a disciple: "This is your mother."
After nine hours of hanging on the cross: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
After going into shock: "I thirst."
Taking his last sip of wine, and just before death: "It is finished."
His dying words: "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit."
So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
